Reactivation opens up important questions of agency in the face of disappearance, normalisation, or appropriation. This line of enquiry considers artworks’ cycles of relevance, visibility, and signification, as well as the modes of production best-suited to intervening in these cycles. It asks: Through what strategies can latent, outmoded, or appropriated artworks and paradigms be reactivated, and what are the stakes of these gestures? What are the potential implications of reintroducing and resignifying the ideas and ideologies underlying works and concepts? How can the structure of the periodic event be used to incite a return to, and reassessment of, older projects?
